Our People

Pueblito does not maintain a permanent office. We operate out of shared space at the Centre for Social Innovation on Tuesdays from 9am-5pm. Staff work remotely during the rest of the week. Appointments are welcomed. Please contact us!

MIRIAM BUTTU, Program Director

Miriam is responsible for our Global Education Programs in both Canada and Nicaragua.  Miriam’s passion and previous work experience in global health education is a tremendous asset to the team.  Prior to Pueblito, Miriam worked in Nicaragua as an HIV/AIDS Program Officer, and since has gained a wealth of experience in team management and resource development. Miriam is the happiest when taking part in her favorite activities: travelling, photography, and yoga.

EMIEKE GELDOF, Bookkeeper

Emieke is exceptional in keeping all financial records in tip-top shape for the Program Director and Board of Directors.  Emieke was interested in the work being done at Pueblito, and after meeting the team she knew it was the right fit for her.  Prior to joining Pueblito, Emieke was the accounting manager for a small software development company.  Before coming to Canada, Emieke was a teacher in New Zealand.  Personally, Emieke enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, painting, and canoeing.  She is also a volunteer for the Toronto Parkdale Horticultural Society, maintaining their website, as well as being the 2nd Vice President on the Board of Directors.

EMELIA HORN, Development and Outreach Manager

Emelia is responsible for fundraising and outreach at Pueblito.  She initially became involved with Pueblito as the interviewer/writer for the Fiesta de Vida event in March of 2012.  Emelia’s commitment to international development began with her Masters Degree in International Studies and Development.  Prior to Pueblito, she worked in rural Nicaragua as a Community Development Volunteer for two years.  Emelia enjoys working in microfinance, social entrepreneurship, and education programs, and has held positions in Guatemala, Peru, and the USA.

EMILY CHASE, Program Coordinator Intern

Emily is a student intern at Pueblito, assisting with the North South Educator Dialogue taking place in Pearl Lagoon, Nicaragua in the summer of 2013.  She is in charge of advertising and recruiting participants, and has played a critical role in the planning stages.  Emily chose Pueblito to gain experience with international development and Canadian and international partnerships.  She is currently enrolled in George Brown College in the Community Worker Program, and will be graduating in the spring of 2013. Emily has also completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa in Anthropology, with a minor in Women’s Studies.  She hopes to eventually work nationally and internationally with women and youth.

MELISSA PILUSO, Social Media Intern

Melissa is in charge of all updates to our various social media platforms and our website. Melissa chose Pueblito to gain some valuable experience in communications while learning more about non-profit organizations. Pueblito seemed like an excellent fit.  She is currently in her third year of her undergraduate degree at York University, majoring in Communication Studies.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.

FARAH MOMEN, Grant Writing Intern

Farah is Pueblito’s Grant Writing Intern. She is in her final year at McGill University, where she is studying Geography, English Literature, and Hispanic Studies. She is eager to understand and promote global equality, and has been involved with Journalists for Human Rights as a radio intern in Ghana and McGill University’s Chapter President. She is excited to practice her grant writing skills, learn more about NGO operations, and assist Pueblito with advancing its projects.

KATIE DALY, Program Director (Leave of Absence)

Katie is a graduate from the Adult Education and Community Development graduate studies program at the University of Toronto.  She has lived and worked in communities in Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Bolivia. Katie has also worked with a variety of Non-Governmental Organizations in Latin America and in Canada.  Katie is currently on a one year leave of absence.
